Hurricane Katrina
this was the man we helped out
this is what a typical house that survived the storm looked like...has the owners phone number their insurance carrier and address spray painted on it. The red "x" indicates that someone has gone through the home to make sure no one had died in the home,
A car that was on the beach
A sunset on the Gulf Coast our 1st night.
A street right next to the beach
This is a picture of what the church looked like where we stayed in the parking lot...all that was left was its frame.
In October of 2005 I had the opportunity to travel to Pass Christian, MS with Campus Crusade to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. I flew into Baton Rouge, LA where I was picked up and driven to Pass Christian, MS. We stayed in a huge tent in a church parking lot on air mattresses for 3 nights. We helped at salvation army tent our first day; the second day we helped clean out one of the only standing schools in the area to get it ready for the middle and high school students to come back to school. Our last full day we went to a man house were we helped clean up all the damage done to his yard and outside of his house, we were also able to help his neighbor, later that day we walked the streets to take picture of the damage and see if there was anyone else who needed help. My pictures don't do justice to all the damage done to this small coastal town. This was an amazing opportunity that I will never forget.
